Where are they now?

Tulsa World - Tulsa, OK, USA - Now that Season 7 of "American Idol" is complete, it's time for winner David Cook and runner-up David Archuleta to take their next step.

That means trying to build and maintain a successful career in the music industry.

Some past winners have thrived, others not so much.

Here's a look at their careers and where they are today.

Season 1

Clarkson has definitely had one of the best post-"Idol" careers.

Her debut album "Thankful" went double-platinum and in 2004 she received a Grammy nomination.

With her second album, "Breakaway," she developed more of a pop-rock persona. With five Top 10 singles, she earned two Grammys.

Her third album, "My December," got a lukewarm reception but her recent work with country star Reba McEntire on the duet "Because of You" garnered another Grammy nomination in 2008.

Runner-up: Justin Guarini

Guarini's career hasn't been as successful.

His debut album was delayed, in part because of his work with Clarkson on the
film "From Justin to Kelly," which bombed at the box office.

During Season 7 of "Idol," he worked as a correspondent with TV Guide Channel and, according to his Web site, he's working on his third studio album.

Season 2

Studdard won over voters with his soulful voice and teddy-bear charm, but his post-"Idol" career hasn't had much success. His debut album, "Soulful," did reach No. 1 and go platinum, but subsequent releases failed to fare as well.

In Season 7 of "Idol," his recording of "Celebrate Me Home" was used as the farewell song.

Runner-up: Clay Aiken

Aiken might have been runner-up, but he's enjoying a successful career as a pop vocalist and Broadway performer.

He's sold more records than any other male from "American Idol" and is third only to Clarkson and Checotah native Carrie Underwood.

His recently released album "On My Way Here" debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

Season 3

Barrino has seen success as both a recording artist and Broadway performer.

Her debut album, "Free Yourself," was certified platinum and earned her four Grammy nods while her second album, "Fantasia," went gold and received three Grammy nominations.

In 2007 she starred in the Broadway musical version of "The Color Purple," which earned her a Theater World Award. She is working on her third studio album.

Runner-up: Diana DeGarmo

DeGarmo has seen limited success after her run with "American Idol."

Her debut release peaked at No. 52 on the Billboard Top 200 charts and she appeared on the soundtrack for Disney's "Ice Princess."

She also was a runner-up on CMT's "Gone Country," and has performed in the Broadway version of "Hairspray."

Most recently, she's been doing ads for a chain restaurant and made a guest voice appearance on "The Fairly Odd Parents."

Season 4

Unless you live in a black hole void of pop culture, you should be well aware of the success of Underwood. Oklahoma's first "Idol" winner has won many music awards, graced the covers of numerous magazines and even dated the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Not bad for the girl from Checotah. Oh yeah, she's also sold more albums than any other "Idol" alum and each one of her singles has reached No. 1.
