Media Advisory: Humanitarian and Best-selling Author Greg Mortenson to Speak at UB Wednesday

UB News Center - Humanitarian, writer and former mountaineer Greg Mortenson will discuss the journey that led him to establish more than 100 schools in some of the most remote regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan when he presents the next lecture in the University at Buffalo's Distinguished Speakers Series at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, in Alumni Arena on the UB North Campus.

The 2010 UB Reads selection author, Mortenson is co-author of The New York Times' bestseller, "Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace...One School at a Time."

His work has not been without difficulty, including an eight-day kidnapping by the Taliban.

Co-founder and executive director of the nonprofit Central Asia Institute and founder of Pennies For Peace, Mortenson has dedicated his life to promoting community-based education and literacy programs, especially for girls.

During the program, audio and/or video photography, as well as still photography, will be limited to the first five minutes of Mortenson's lecture.

Working media may reserve tickets by contacting Christine Vidal in UB Office of Communications at 645-4607 or no later than noon on Wednesday, Nov. 10. Reserved tickets may be picked up at the will-call window in Alumni Arena prior to the program. Media may need to show press credentials in order to be admitted to the program.
