Eva Longoria To Host First Celebrity Charity Twitter Auction For Haiti

Forbes - Can one tweet change the world? Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria is organizing the first celebrity charity auction on Twitter, TwitChange, on September 15th. Instead of auctioning off items or dates, TwitChange will auction off the chance for the top bidders to be followed by their favorite celebrity on Twitter, retweeted by them or mentioned by them in a “special tweet.” Proceeds will go to a charity called, which helps provide housing for orphans in Haiti.

“I’m asking all my friends — celebrities, entertainers, businessmen, techies,” said Longoria in a video promoting the cause.

Around 100 celebrities have already joined, including Twitter darling Justin Bieber, the Jonas Brothers, Ryan Seacrest, Kim Kardashian and Victoria Beckham. Actress and techie Alyssa Milano is also among the celebrity volunteers.

Longoria is also using the social network itself to reach out to other celebrities. She’s tweeted many, like Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, and Kanye West, encouraging them to join as well.

Among the ‘techies,’ I took a look at who Longoria reached out to on Twitter, and Digg founder Kevin Rose looked like the highest profile invite so far among the Silicon Valley crowd.

Celebrity usage has always been a big part of Twitter. TwitChange puts to good use their presence on the network, and should be a good publicity boost for the company.
