Mike Epps' X-rated 'funny bidness' |
By Hector Saldaña, San Antonio Express - Comedic actor Mike Epps rolls into Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club Friday night for a much-needed, three-night stand of adult-style hilarity and political incorrectness.
“I can’t wait to get back to San Antone. I’ve got my sombrero and it’s going down, man,” Epps joked. “All my family is coming from Guadalajara to see me for the weekend. Let’s do it.”
He says that he does movies – his last one was the out-of-nowhere hit “The Hangover” – to keep his fans on their toes.
“I do a couple of movies here and there to make the fans say, ‘Dang, Mike is working.’ Then between movies, I come to the city and show up live in the flesh.’”
It’s a different kick doing stand-up. Epps performs two shows at 8 and 10:15 tonight and Saturday. Sunday’s show is at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $28.
“(Stand-up) comedy is instant gratification for an entertainer like myself. So to go onstage is like nothing else in the world. You know, because with movies you have to wait a whole year,” Epps said from Los Angeles.
With movies, it’s unpredictable. No one really knows if it’s going to click. “The Hangover” is a perfect example.
Epps says the secret is not to try too hard to be funny.
“We never knew that was going to click. We just all go together. Those guys wrote that movie and we were just having fun,” Epps explained. “And out of the fun, they end up with the best movie ever – and me, Black Doug.”
On the other side of the spectrum, there was Epps’ experience with the big-budget flop “The Honeymooners” with Cedric the Entertainer.
