Knights to Honor Cal Ripken Jr. |
OurSports Central (press release) - Marshfield, WI, USA - On Saturday, June 23 the Charlotte Knights will honor former Charlotte O's infielder Cal Ripken Jr. with a number of giveaways in which every fan will leave the ballpark a winner. Fans who attend Cal Ripken Jr. day will have a chance to win a Ripken bobble head doll, hologram cards, magnets or a general admission ticket to a future game for the Knights. Scratch off cards will be given to fans in attendance to determine which prize they will receive.
There will be 2,632 bobble heads given away, representing Ripken's streak of consecutive games played. The bobble heads are supplied by Pet Dairy and Southeast Dairy Farmers. Other prizes include Ripken Hologram cards, supplied by Kellogg's and Harris Teeter and magnets from AIG.
Ripken played for the Charlotte O's during the 1979-80 seasons. He joined the Charlotte team near the end of the 1979 season. He helped lead the O's to the Southern League Championship in 1980. Ripken will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame next month. The game will be a double header starting at 5:15 p.m. Gates will open an hour prior to game time. Charlotte will play against the Rochester Red Wings, a team Ripken played for after he left Charlotte.
