Harlem to get upscale eatery with celebrity chef |
By Adrianne Pasquarelli, Crain's New York Business - Attention New Yorkers! By fall, there will be a new venue for eating the culinary creations of celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson. Mr. Samuelsson recently signed a 15-year deal at 310 Lenox Ave., between West 125th and West 126th streets.
The award-winning restaurateur and former executive chef at Scandinavian restaurant Aquavit and is also a contestant on Bravo’s Top Chef Masters, confirmed earlier this year that his next eatery would be in Harlem, but the address had yet to be announced.
The deal includes 3,300 square feet on the ground floor and a 4,000-square-foot basement, all of which will be used for retail space. Asking rent for this deal was around $75 a square foot.
“It’ll be American fare, but it will draw upon his diversity of experiences and training,” explained Derek Fleming, a director for Mr. Samuelsson. He added that the restaurant, opening this autumn, will “engage food, music and entertainment.” Sources said the spot will have a café and bar on the ground level, and jazz and fine dining downstairs.
Brad Cohen, the Ripco Real Estate Corp. broker who represented Mr. Samuelsson, declined to comment about the deal. Gary Rosen, a leasing agent at SL Green Realty Corp., brokered the deal on behalf of landlord the NBA Players Association, which is also known as Home Court Management and leases space on the second floor of the building. Mr. Rosen could not be reached for comment.
