Fallon May Replace O'Brien On Late Night |
Cinema Blend - USA - He's an idiot, and he's your boyfriend... and maybe your next late-night host. NBC has reportedly put Jimmy Fallon at "the top of our short list" to replace Conan O'Brien as the host of 'Late Night,' according to a Broadcasting & Cable interview with NBC late-night chief Rick Ludwin.
"These are very tough jobs when you promise comedy as part of the equation, and it's a grind to do one of these shows," Ludwin says. "We know him from SNL and saw what he can do on-camera and off-camera, and I think he'd be terrific."
O'Brien is scheduled to take over 'The Tonight Show' from Jay Leno. Fallon signed a developmental deal with NBC earlier this year, though he has done no pilots or taped auditions for 'Late Night' thus far. His talk show experience is limited to hosting 'Weekend Update' on 'SNL' and a brief stint filling in for David Letterman in 2003.
There's no telling how Fallon would actually fare in Conan's spot, though there are enough Fallon-haters out there to bemoan the switch. With Conan sticking around for the even-plummer spot at 'The Tonight Show,' and Jay Leno and his giant chin finally going on their way, maybe the naysayers will be too distracted to care.
