Cedric "The Entertainer" Hosts Take Wings Foundation 5th Annual Angel Awards Gala |
BlackNews.com (press release) - Long Beach, CA, USA - The Take Wings Foundation (TWF) rolled out the pink carpet for hundreds of guests at their 5th Annual Angel Awards Gala on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco. The fundraising affair was hosted by comedian/actor, Cedric "The Entertainer" whose humor kept the audience laughing throughout the evening.
TWF founded in 1997 by award winning actress Terri J. Vaughn to help build self-esteem of at-risk girls between the ages of 13-18 living in the greater San Francisco Bay Area by providing positive experiences and role models.
"It's such an Awesome event. I'm so touched to see the community, my family and friends come together to support the Foundation and all of the Angels we serve. I'm very proud to be here to celebrate these amazing young ladies, the unsung heroes who support them and the organization. Each year we continue to grow and truly make a positive difference in the lives of these beautiful young ladies...that's what it's all about!" expressed a tearful Vaughn.
The evening was filled an array of emotions from laughter to tears of sorrow and joy. The Foundation paid tribute to fallen TWF Angel, Antwanisha Morgan, whose life was taken early this year and the "unsung heroes" in the community. Angel Awards were presented by local news anchors Sara Sidner (KTVU 2) and Carolyn Tyler (ABC 7) to Nola Kesia Brantley -- Coordinator, Sexually Abused and Commercially Exploited Youth Services and Walter Turner -- Founder, Parents Who Care, for their astonishing work in the community.
The audience enjoyed live musical performances by Erica Campbell of the Grammy-winning gospel duo, Mary Mary and Bay Area vocalists, Amar Khalil (Lead vocal for Tony! Toni! Tone'!) and Mone't.
The generous sponsors that contributed to the gala fundraiser to benefit the foundation included Starbucks, Safeway, Hennessy, heart&soul and Kaiser Permanente.
