| Augusta County man will compete in American Idol |
Staunton News Leader - Staunton, VA, USA
- Since Colton Berry's ecstatic face popped up briefly at the end of "American Idol" two weeks ago, friends and fans of the thespian-savant have been anxiously awaiting the start of the Hollywood round of the show Tuesday.
"American Idol" has been airing audition clips of hopefuls from across the country since Jan. 15. With those over, this week's episodes will feature clips of contestants chosen by judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. The judges will whittle down the competitors to 24 finalists consisting of 12 men and 12 women.
Since hundreds will compete in Hollywood, it's unknown how much of | | Read More |

| American Idol Shake Up: Ryan Seacrest & Simon Cowell? |
|
|
National Ledger - Apache Junction, AZ, USA
- Ryan Seacrest is the hardest working man in show business. He slams through a radio gig every single day in Los Angeles, hosts American idol and also has his hand, voice and face in many other television projects. But has he grown tired of Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell? Who could blame him?
But I'm thinking no. But the host may be looking to fill a void soon as a new report from OK! Magazine claims that seven years of Idol may have finally taken its toll on Simon Cowell. Will he soon be gone in what would be |

|
New York Times - United States
- Tuesday might have been an important night for the presidential primary process, but Fox came away the big winner in the television ratings race, easily outpacing its rivals’ election coverage. As usual, “American Idol” led over all, drawing 27.8 million viewers at 8, according to Nielsen’s estimates. At 9, Fox’s “House” earned a similarly dominant 23.2 million viewers. Meanwhile, ABC, the only network to broadcast three full hours of election returns, ranked fourth over all with an average of 5.3 million viewers during prime time. CBS, which broadcast presidential primary results from 9 to 11, finished third (4.7 million). NBC’s | | Read More |

Leo Marlowe, from the Omaha, Neb., auditions, showed the judges his striking vocals and charming personality. Viewers can expect Marlowe to be a strong contender in Hollywood. David Cook, also from the Omaha auditions, will stand apart with his unique rocker voice if | | Read More |

| American Idol runner-up agrees record deal |
RTE.ie - Ireland
- Blake Lewis, the runner-up from the sixth series of 'American Idol', has signed a deal for his debut album.
Billboard reports that Lewis has agreed a contract with 19 Recordings/Arista.
The album, provisionally titled 'Audio Daydream (ADD)', is due for release late in 2007.
Speaking to Billboard earlier this month about the album, Lewis said: "It's your favourite 80s mix tape - very inspired by Michael Jackson, Prince, Erasure, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, the Cure. It's all over the map, really - very influenced by 80s hip-hop, old school breaks, whatever." | | Read More |

| American Idol Runner-Up Blake Lewis Signs Record Deal with Arista |
BuddyTV - USA
- Blake Lewis, runner-up on last season's American Idol, has signed his first record deal. The beat-boxing specialist from Bothell, Washington has inked a deal with Clive Davis's Artista record label and will release an album later this year. Lewis was a surprise finalist on this past season of American Idol and while he was destined to lose to the safer and less unusual Jordin Sparks, he gained a loyal base of fans during his time on Idol.
It's being mongered in a few places that the album is provisionally titled “Audio Daydream (ADD)”, but who knows whether that's the truth. Earlier | | Read More |

| Daughtry pays tribute to Layne Staley |
Seattle Times - United States
- It almost sounds like a crossword puzzle clue: What "American Idol" contestant is an unlikely fan of grunge, specifically Layne Staley of Alice In Chains? The answer in eight letters, with enough juicy consonants to make Will Shortz wiggle, is Daughtry.
In more than a few ways, Chris Daughtry's self-titled alternative rock band was an odd choice to headline the annual concert that serves to celebrate what would have been the birthday of Staley, particularly on the milestone of what would have been his fortieth.
Staley, a Kirkland native, died in 2002, and though his impact on music remains strong, there is | | Read More |

The 'Since U Been Gone' singer, who recently appeared as a guest on Canadian Idol, claimed that the programme is superior because contestants are allowed to play instruments.
"Your Idol is so much better! They don't let you near instruments on American Idol," Kelly told CTV’s eTalk. She added: "Yours is so cool."
Clarkson was voted as the winner of American Idol's first season in 2002. She recently released her third album, My December. |

| Fantasia defies cynics _ including herself _ with a mesmerizing debut in Broadway's 'Purple' |

- After it was announced that Fantasia would take over the lead role in the Broadway musical «The Color Purple,» she recalls her co-stars as being warm, friendly and supportive. Still, she knew in the back of their minds that they had doubt about her casting.
Perhaps for good reason. The former «American Idol» champ was taking over for LaChanze, who won a Tony for her portrayal of the downtrodden «Celie,» and the 23-year-old's acting experience had been limited to a saccharine Lifetime TV biopic in which she played herself _ not exactly the most challenging of roles.

| 'American Idol'-inspired 'Idol: The Musical' closes after just one night |
|
|
Reality TV World - Mansfield, MA, USA
- An American Idol-inspired musical apparently had far less success than the Fox mega-hit it's based on.
Idol: The Musical -- "a satirical musical comedy" that followed a delusional Clay Aiken fan base consisting of soon-to-be high-school graduates -- closed on Monday after only one regular performance, Reuters reported Tuesday.
"[Production closed] due to a lack of advance ticket sales, a lack of positive feedback from audience members and critics and a lack of sustainable financial resources," producer Todd Ellis said in a statement, according to Reuters.
Idol: The Musical first debuted in Syracuse, NY earlier this year with a 10-person cast before it |

| AMERICAN IDOL'S CONSTANTINE MAROULIS TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM, CONSTANTINE AUGUST 7th, 2007 |
Hellenic News of America - Havertown, PA, USA
- Constantine Maroulis made American Idol?s 2005 season exceptional. His delivery of the Queen classic “Bohemian Rhapsody” electrified audiences and became that year?s must see performance. His black leather jacket, smoldering good looks, rock ?n roll attitude and charismatic stage presence made him stand out from the other contestants, but that wasn?t entirely unexpected. Constantine is a seasoned professional; a mutli-talented actor, singer, arranger and performer who?d put in years of hard work before Idol landed him in the national spotlight.
In the past two years, Constantine has continued his winning streak. He?s headlined the Summer 2005 American Idol Tour, was personally |

| Elliott Yamin Is 3rd American Idol Alum to Make Pop Radio Top 5 |

- It's been a quiet, long, and slow climb, but Elliott Yamin's single "Wait for You", the oldest single on the chart still making upward progress, climbed to the #4 spot this past week in pop radio airplay. This puts Yamin in the elite group of only 3 past American Idol contestants to reach the top 5 in pop radio airplay. The other 2 are Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry with his band Daughtry. - Sabrina Sloan made the final 16 on "American Idol" this year before she was eliminated – sooner than the judges and many fans had expected.
But there's nothing like a major-label record contract to ease the sting of that defeat.
Sloan, a 1997 graduate of Mission Viejo High School, signed a two-album deal with Universal Records Motown, her publicist announced Thursday, with the first album slated for release this fall.
She'll debut with a collection of duets with fellow "American Idol" contestant Sundance Head – eliminated the same night she was, and like her, a singer who initially looked like he'd go deeper |
