Report: Selig wants accountability for players in Mitchell report
ESPN - USA - Baseball commissioner Bud Selig wants the players named in the Mitchell report to bear some accountability for their involvement in performance-enhancing drugs -- and that is slowing progress in talks with the players' union on implementing Mitchell's recommendations, The New York Times reported.

Selig, while willing to forgo suspensions for players named in the report, wants those players to be held responsible in some other way, the Times reported, citing two lawyers who had been briefed on the talks and spoke on condition of anonymity.

That accountability could include counseling or fines.

"He wants a small dose of action and that will satisfy

Could Ann Coulter and Elisabeth Hasselbeck be right?
Socialite Report - New York, NY, USA - Could it be? Something that Ann Coulter, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and I all have in common? It think so...

Ann Coulter is a right-wing conservative puppet with a big mouth. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a moderate Republican talk show host. I am a moderate blogger Democrat. What could we all have in common? It's our belief that Barack Obama missed the boat with his race speech.

For once, these two echo my sediments. Why in the world would Barack Obama throw his white grandmother into the fire like that?

And as Hasselbeck said on "The View," I'm also insulted that Obama calls someone who has

Dana Perino Disses Helen Thomas On The Daily Show
Huffington Post - New York, NY, USA - Dana Perino gets points for bravery, both for going on The Daily Show and for doing so in hot pink — but otherwise last night's interview with the current White House Press Secretary was sort of...uncomfortable. She handled it like a pro, of course — Jon Stewart called her "unflappable" — but otherwise it did little to contradict her image as a smooth spinmeister who remains on message no matter what other human response may be required. (For example, Stewart picked up on last week's headline wherein she said that no one in the briefing room asked her about Iraq

America Losing International Esteem
Daily Colonial - Washington, DC, USA - The super power image of the United States is dwindling among international eyes, according to a group of experts in the Jack Morton Auditorium Wednesday afternoon. The panel moderated by former Secretary of Defense William Cohen and former Senator Sam Nunn paralleled this decline with the vigorous “Anti-American” attitudes have emerged in since the start of the Iraq war.

These perceptions served as the basis for the inaugural installment of the “Cohen-Nunn Dialogues,” an event was co-sponsored by the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Howard-Gilman Foundation.

“Anti-Americanism has become an entrenched set of attitudes around the world,” said Andrew

Root ahead on Libertarian Lists survey
Third Party Watch - USA - A sampling of 98 Libertarian National Convention delegates suggests that Wayne Allyn Root is currently the frontrunner with respect to the Libertarian Party presidential nomination. Of the 14 candidates tested, Root earned 22.45% of delegate votes. He was followed by Steve Kubby with 14.29% and George Phillies with 10.20%.

Several factors need to be considered, however. With less than a quarter of the delegates, it doesn’t look like (at this time) Root could win the first round of votes at the convention. In this case, second choice preferences become extremely important. A comparison of negatives between the various candidates shows that

MSNBC trades Tucker for Gregory
PRWeek - New York, NY, USA - Tucker Carlson, resident bow-tie wearer and conservative commentator at MSNBC, is out as host but will stay on as senior campaign correspondent. The news network will replace Tucker with Race for the White House, to be hosted by political correspondent David Gregory, starting Monday. Refusing to “whine about it,” Carlson praised MSNBC for being nice to him throughout his tenure. He then followed up last week's smackdown of a journalist from The Scotsman by taking a shot at hooker-scandal-surrounded New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer on the way out the door.

In focus: Toni Locy

Former USA Today reporter Toni Locy is fighting

Tucker Carlson Show Gets Dropped from MSNBC
TransWorldNews (press release) - Monroe, GA, USA - MSNBC cancelled Tucker, the show hosted by Tucker Carlson, on Monday. The time slot will be replaced by a show starring NBC chief White House correspondent David Gregory.

Gregory's show will be a fresher politically-oriented show. Gregory is a back-up for Matt Lauer on NBC's Today Show.

Carlson will remain with MSNBC as a campaign correspondent, covering the presidential race from Washington and the road.

Gregory, whose program will be shown weeknights beginning at 6 pm, will continue be the chief White House correspondent for NBC News, the parent company of MSNBC.

What the Tuck? Carlson's show yanked
TV Squad - Santa Monica, CA, USA - Arch, conservative, preppie guy Tucker Carlson has been ousted from his MSNBC show. Carlson's one-hour talk show, called Tucker, has been canceled. NBC News correspondent David Gregory will take over the hour slot, 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, which will be called Race for the White House. This week will be Carlson's last. Gregory starts on Monday, March 17.

MSNBC is reportedly making a series of changes, amping up the political chatter. Considering how much politicking is going on now, including Tucker, it's hard to fathom how switching Carlson for Gregory is going to increase the discourse.

Carlson has known for a

Lecturer Gen. Zinni proves the patriotism that lies in dissent
Durham News - NC, USA - This month marks five years since the U.S. invaded Iraq. In the meantime, Osama bin Laden, who directed the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America, continues to call terrorist shots from caves in western Pakistan, having escaped Afghanistan after the U.S. invasion in 2001. If you, too, are distressed by the use and misuse of the U.S. military since 9/11, there's something you can do about it: vote.

In November, voters will elect a new president, the next commander-in-chief of the military. Retired four-star Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni, who served under eight presidents from 1961 until retiring in 2000, and has
