Voice of America - USA - Julianne Hough grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. At age 4, she began singing in her family's Country band, White Lightning. After studying dance in London for five years, Julianne returned home to the U.S., and decided to pursue a singing career. But, last year, she put her music career on hold once again while competing on seasons four and five of Dancing With The Stars. Julianne made a third appearance this year, but was eliminated in the fourth week.

After leaving the series, she headed to Nashville. Julianne says the first thing she had to do was find songs

CNN - USA - When "Dancing with the Stars" champ Julianne Hough came to town to make her debut album, Nashville's songwriters went to work churning out a bunch of songs about -- what else? -- dancing.

Big mistake.

"Each one that said dancing (in the title), I said 'Nope, sorry,' " Hough, 19, recalled over coffee recently.

For now at least, Hough, whose self-titled CD came out last week, wants people to forget she's a dancer and think of her as a singer.

She's been doing both since she was a little girl and had actually begun pursuing a career in music before "Dancing with the Stars."

CMT.com - Nashville, TN, USA - Julianne Hough, heretofore best known as a Dancing With the Stars stalwart, has embarked on a country music career. Released on May 20, her self-titled CD will debut at No. 1 this week on Billboard's country albums chart. This summer, she'll add to her country credentials by opening shows on Brad Paisley's tour that also features Jewel and Chuck Wicks.

During a recent visit to CMT's Nashville offices to tape a session of Unplugged at Studio 330, the Utah native took time for an interview. Here are excerpts from that conversation.

CMT: What first attracted you to country music?

The winning couple from Season 5 of Dancing With the Stars will perform Sunday night at the Wachovia Center, the last stop on "Dancing With the Stars - The Tour."

But no, they're not getting together in that way, Castroneves says, with a smile in his voice. "She definitely was a very strong teacher and a very good one, too. And the only romance we had was on the dance floor."
