UB News Center - Humanitarian, writer and former mountaineer Greg Mortenson will discuss the journey that led him to establish more than 100 schools in some of the most remote regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan when he presents the next lecture in the University at Buffalo's Distinguished Speakers Series at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, in Alumni Arena on the UB North Campus.

The 2010 UB Reads selection author, Mortenson is co-author of The New York Times' bestseller, "Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace...One School at a Time."

His work has not been without difficulty, including an eight-day kidnapping by the Taliban.

Mortenson stresses the need to build relationships
Rotary International - Greg Mortenson, best-selling author of Three Cups of Tea and cofounder of the nonprofit Central Asia Institute, encouraged Rotarians on 21 June to keep working to make the world a better place and thanked Rotary for its efforts to eradicate polio in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Greg Mortenson visits EHS, inspires many
By Joshua Clark, York Weekly - Eighteen years ago, Greg Mortenson climbed Pakistan's K2 to honor the memory of his sister, Christa, who had died following a lifelong struggle with epilepsy. After the climb Mortenson found himself in a remote village where he saw a group of children writing with sticks in the sand because they were without a proper school and became inspired to build one for them.

In the intervening years, through his nonprofit Central Asia Institute, Mortenson has established 131 schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan, providing education to over 58,000 children.
