Ferguson wants Jon Stewart to replace Letterman
TV Squad - Santa Monica, CA, USA
- Awwww, isn't it nice when one late night host gives a compliment to another?
Late, Late Show host Craig Ferguson says that he would like to see Jon Stewart take over for David Letterman if and when Letterman retires. Letterman's current contract with CBS is up in 2010, which just happens to be the same time that Stewart's contract is up with The Daily Show and Comedy Central.
But that's not the most interesting part of this interview with Ferguson over at Broadcasting and Cable. Ferguson hints strongly that if Letterman stays, he'll stay, but if Letterman does indeed retire, he'll probably

Ferguson Backs Stewart for Late Show Gig
TheCelebrityCafe.com - Valley Stream, NY, USA
- Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson is backing Jon Stewart to take over for David Letterman, if Letterman leaves CBS when his contract is up in 2010.
“I think Jon should replace Dave if Dave decides to go,” Ferguson told Broadcasting & Cable last week.
“I think Dave should stay, I think he ain’t done. But if Dave is finished, I think Jon has earned the job.”
It seems funny to many, including certain writers at TheCelebrityCafe.com, that Ferguson supports Stewart, and not himself, for Letterman’s current job.
Ferguson’s support is evermore interesting because Stewart is only signed with Comedy Central through 2010, making

Craig Ferguson Was Third Choice For White House Correspondents' Dinner Host -- Who Couldn't Do It?
Editor & Publisher - USA
- NEW YORK Late night TV host Craig Ferguson was not the first choice to host this year's White House Correspondents Association dinner. But WHCA President Ann Compton, who picked Ferguson, still expects his appearance to bring a fresh take on issues to Washington's top politicians and press.
"I picked him because he is somebody sort of outside the system," says Compton, who spoke Wednesday from a train that was taking her back to D.C. after a week of covering Hillary Clinton. "I had been Tivoing him for months. There is something younger and fresher about him."
Compton said she first offered the

Fast and Loose With Craig Ferguson Live
Washington Post - United States
- Between a late-night show on CBS and a 2006 Emmy nomination, it's not as if comedian Craig Ferguson needs the validation of a live crowd. He's appearing at the Warner Theatre on Saturday, part of a one-week, five-stop comedy tour, because stand-up is in his blood.
"Once you do it, it's always on your mind," the 45-year-old host -- and sometime actor, novelist, screenwriter and director -- says from Los Angeles, where he tapes "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson."
Indeed, standing behind a live microphone gives him an opportunity a national television slot does not. "Once you're onstage you don't

ADS SLICE FUNNYMAN FERGUSON'S LATE-NIGHT MONOLOGUE IN HALF
New York Post - New York, NY, USA
- 'LATE Late Show" host Craig Ferguson was forced to take an un precedented commercial break in the middle of his Tuesday- night monologue - under a new mandate from management.
CBS, Ferguson's net work, is trying to goose the ratings by cramming ads into the hourlong broadcast earlier, since Nielsen will begin measur ing commercials for view ership this fall.
"This is a proactive re sponse to an upcoming rat ings system that will be put in place for the new season," says CBS spokes person Chris Ender.
"We want to get ahead of the game and experi ment to see if the

Ferguson says rules are different for Palace show
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Pittsburgh, PA, USA
- Merge the DNA of James Bond with that of cheeky, profane Scottish comedian Billy Connolly, and the result might look something like Craig Ferguson. "When I was growing up, Billy was a stand-up comic and was famous in Scotland," says Ferguson, in a Scots accent thick as the fur on your tongue after a night of boozing.
"He was kind of like my hero, he was like Elvis to me. It was the first time I'd heard anyone talk on TV with an accent like mine."
As the host of "The Late, Late Show on CBS," Ferguson is suave, roguish and wry,
