| Brett Favre, exemplary American Catholic |
Dallas Morning News - Dallas, TX, USA
- Earlier this month, legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre announced his retirement after seventeen years in the NFL. He walked away holding most of the major records at his position, and as much as any athlete of his time he attracted not just admiration but veneration, inspiring even a "Packers Prayer" ("Our Favre . . . Hallowed be thine arm"). Favre has become a football deity, but he has also achieved the status of an exemplary American Catholic. Indeed, the website Catholic Online (www.catholic.org) names him second among the "Top 10 Catholic Heroes of the Super Bowl." For many |

| Editorial: Give Aaron Rodgers chance to succeed |
Sheboygan Press - Sheboygan, WI, USA
- Whether the Aaron Rodgers era has already begun in Green Bay or we'll have to wait for it until he starts his first game for the Packers, one thing is certain — he's not the second coming of Brett Favre.
As much as we loved what Brett Favre did on the football field and what he meant to Wisconsin, it would be completely unfair to Aaron Rodgers to expect him to be the same player and person.

San Francisco Chronicle - CA, USA

Favre's retirement Tuesday sparked another of those tedious and contrived "Is he the best ever?" discussions among TV and radio producers across the land. It wasn't designed to reach consensus |

| Favre says breaking Marino's TD record wouldn't mean a lot |
WKBT - La Crosse, WI, USA
- Brett Favre is poised to break at least 1 of Dan Marino's prestigious records this season.
But Favre told ESPN in an interview that it wouldn't mean much if he throws for seven more touchdowns to pass the former Dolphins quarterback's mark of 420.
Favre says he thinks Marino is 1 of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play.
In Favre's words -- "I've never considered myself as good or better than him and never will."
Favre is returning for his 16th season with the Packers and 17th season in the league.
He says he's fortunate he hasn't been forced into retirement because of injury or |

usatoday.com

Brett Favre has been the quarterback of the Packers for so long, it's hard to remember anyone else playing the position in Green Bay. That durability — Favre has played in 237 consecutive games — and his winning style that has earned him the 14th spot on USA TODAY's list.
