Cowher's newest gig: Piano man
Pittsburgh Post Gazette - Pittsburgh, PA, USA
- You'd have every right to be dismissive of Bill Cowher's comments to KDKA-TV's Mike Zappone this week indicating he won't coach football again, except for that thing about the piano.
The list of various ways the erstwhile Steelers coach is passing his Mayberry RFD days in this, the eighth month of his retirement -- racquetball, golf, spending time with the family, prepping to yak away part of the Sabbath on another indispensable pregame show -- was pretty much the prescribed relaxation profile of someone who simply needed a year away from the NFL, two at the outside. But, when Cowher added

Bill Cowher Addresses Rumors About His Future
KDKA - Pittsburg, PA, USA
- Ever since Bill Cowher resigned from his post as head coach of the Steelers, the rumor mill has been working in overdrive about his plans.
Some reports speculated he would sit out for a year and coach another NFL team like the Cleveland Browns or the Dallas Cowboys. Others pegged Cowher to coach a college program.
But in an exclusive one-on-one interview with KDKA's Mike Zappone, Cowher, now an NFL analyst for CBS Sports, says none of it is true.

Cowher Relaxes Into Role as Analyst
New York Times - United States
- Bill Cowher’s summers as an adult have all been in N.F.L. training camps: as a linebacker, an assistant coach or, for the last 15 seasons, as the coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He resigned in January, was hired by CBS Sports as a studio analyst for “The NFL Today,” and in a network conference room yesterday displayed a calmness at odds with his excitable sideline demeanor.
Cowher said his current state of relaxation reaffirmed his decision to leave the sidelines and that he did not miss coaching or training camp. “I don’t see myself coaching anytime in the near future,” he

Cowher putting his jaw to new use
Albany Times Union - Albany, NY, USA
- He couldn't quit cold turkey.
Fifteen years of prowling the Pittsburgh Steelers' sidelines, a span that made him the National Football League's longest-tenured coach, were enough for Bill Cowher, but he couldn't leave the sport entirely.
So looking tanned and relaxed on a rainy day in midtown Manhattan, there Cowher was Tuesday in the offices of CBS, surrounded by a handful of former players who had earlier made the transition into television.
As an analyst for the network's NFL studio show, Cowher is a rookie again.
"He's not afraid to speak his mind," said James Brown, whose job as studio host resembles that of

Swengali: Bored? Football is Almost Here
Express - Washington, DC, USA
- I LIKE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL'S All-Star Game.
It's a collection of the best players, with each team represented, in what is normally a competitive game that the American League wins.
The game also signifies the start of something big. No, not the second half of the season. No, not Barry Bonds' drawn-out, juiced-up chase of Hank Aaron. And, no, not the Red Sox choking away a huge lead (sorry, Yankee fans, it won't happen this year).
Rather, the doldrums of the post All-Star break remind us that football is just around the corner.
Two weeks from Friday, the Redskins start training camp. There won't

Steel City Summer
RotoTimes.com - USA
- Notable Offseason Moves: The biggest shakeup in Pittsburgh took place off the field, where Bill Cowher stepped down after 15 seasons at the helm. Given two quality in-house candidates- Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm-the Steelers again looked outside the organization to a little-known defensive assistant and brought in former Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin. You can't blame the Rooneys for the decision, as Tomlin is a fast riser and a similar approach had worked before with both Cowher and Chuck Noll; however, the decision ultimately cost Pittsburgh both Whisenhunt-who took over as Arizona's head coach-and Grimm, who followed his colleague to

Cowher Planning A Return To Coaching? Redskins Deny Involvement
NBC 4.com - Washington, DC, USA
- Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher is reportedly already scouting possible teams for head coaching vacancies following the 2007 season.
At least if you believe a report Tuesday on Profootballtalk.com. The Washington Redskins, however, refute the claim in the report that Cowher has had at least one private talk with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder about the possibility of replacing Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs if he decides to step down following the season.
"No one at the Washington Redskins has had any meetings or discussions with Bill Cowher or anyone else regarding any coaching position with the Redskins," the team
