Heard on Campus: Dick Vermeil
Ethiopian Review - “I always look at tough times as temporary. I’ve had the support and confidence throughout my life to help me succeed. When seasons were hard, it was the young players that I was coaching that inspired me to keep going, keep trying, to use adversity as a positive and to remain optimistic.”

Dick Vermeil, NFL head coach and football broadcaster, on what energized him to persist and remain positive during strenuous football seasons and in life, speaking on Tuesday, April 20, in Eisenhower Auditorium on Penn State’s University Park campus. Forbes: Braly 4th most powerful woman, NC - Forbes has ranked Angela Braly, chief executive and president of WellPoint, the fourth most powerful woman in the world.

On a list of the 100 Most Powerful Women published Thursday, she moved up from her sixteenth spot last year.

“Named CEO in June 2007, Braly crashed through health insurance's glass ceiling but still earned $26 million less last year than her male predecessor,” according to Forbes. “The St. Louis attorney helped Missouri's Blue Cross convert from a nonprofit into an investor-owned company in 1994. Book clubbed
Los Angeles Times - CA,USA - The controversy that erupted Tuesday over Ron Suskind's new book-length account of the Bush/Cheney administration's conduct of the war on terrorism raises some interesting questions about the way publishers treat a literary genre that has become increasingly vital to our political journalism.

The flap, at least so far, stems from the book's allegation that the White House ordered then-Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet to fabricate a letter from an Iraqi intelligence official in which he not only admitted a Baghdad-Al Qaeda connection but bragged that Mohamed Atta, ringleader of the 9/11 hijackers, had been trained in Iraq. Nothing of the

Los Angeles Times - CA,USA - "Survivor" producer Mark Burnett, voting his longtime business manager off the island, contended Wednesday in a lawsuit that even after Conrad Riggs received more than $25 million during their decade-long relationship, Riggs engaged in schemes to enrich himself further.

Burnett's countersuit comes three weeks after Riggs originally sued Burnett, the producer of such reality TV shows as "The Apprentice" and "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?" for allegedly reneging on an agreement to pay Riggs and his company, Cloudbreak Entertainment Inc., 10% of Burnett's profit.

In his 20-page cross complaint, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Burnett claimed that he

Bezos to Wall Street: I told you so.
Jeff Bezos
GigaOm - San Francisco, CA, USA - Back in the dot-com boom, CEO Jeff Bezos piled on debt to build the biggest online retailer, one designed to keep customers happy. People said it would drive Amazon to an early bankruptcy, but the company turned a profit in 2002 and has stayed in the black since. They said the company would never be more than a glorified retailer, but dozens of startups are using its Web services as a utility-like lifeline for their incubation.

When those criticisms were pushed aside, the naysayers said Amazon Prime was a brick tied to its potential profits, and that it would never drive
