| Don't Debate, Co-Create! |
Stephen M. Ross School of Business - Ann Arbor, MI, USA
- To succeed in "new age of innovation," firms must partner with individual consumers to co-create customized experiences, say researchers.
ANN ARBOR, Mich.—Who will shape the consumer experience of the future? The actual consumer, argue Ross professors C.K. Prahalad and M.S. Krishnan in The New Age of Innovation (McGraw-Hill, 2008). Their new book, subtitled Driving Co-Created Value Through Global Networks, asserts that the most successful companies no longer invent products and services on their own, but rather "co-create" them in partnership with customers.
"The sources of value are rapidly shifting from products to personalized experiences," Prahalad says in a recent interview with InformationWeek. | | Read More |

| Business Books: Lessons for today's market in 1907 panic |
|
Canada.com - Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
- The current upheaval in global markets has many on Wall Street drawing comparisons to turmoil seen in 1998, 1987 and even 1929, but a new book suggests investors should look back as far as 1907 for insight into the mechanisms that can trigger a crash.
"The Panic of 1907" (Wiley, $29.95) begins with the Park Avenue suicide of Charles Barney, a prominent New York banker. Barney was one of many casualties -- both individual and institutional -- of an attempt to corner the market in shares of United Copper Co., which brought a string of banks to the brink of collapse.

WorldNetDaily - Grants Pass, OR, USA
- A best-seller that outlines government plans to promote the integration of the U.S., Mexico and Canada – "The Late Great USA" by Jerome Corsi – is No. 8 on the New York Times' list of hardcover business books, was No. 28 overall last week and once again is the No. 1 pick among readers at Shop.WND.com.
The stunning revelations in the book, which also has hit No. 1 on Amazon's nonfiction list, show how the tactics of unelected globalist business leaders, bureaucrats and taxpayer-funded academics could lead to the merger of the U.S. with Mexico and Canada.

Wall Street Journal - USA
- In 1991, Timothy Ferriss, then in his teens, landed his first job: cleaning an ice-cream shop. Despite his inexperience, he figured out a way to finish the chores of his eight-hour shift in one hour, which enabled him to spend the rest of his time "reading kung-fu magazines and practicing karate kicks outside," he writes in "The 4-Hour Workweek." His boss, inexplicably underwhelmed by the performance of the magazine-reading, high-kicking one-hour wonder, fired Mr. Ferriss after three days, telling him: "Maybe someday you'll understand the value of hard work." Sixteen years later, Mr. Ferriss writes with pride, "I still don't."

I looked him square in the eyes and said, "If that's your view of management, you're probably right; you're probably doomed to failure."
But the good news, I told him, was that a basic change in his approach to people management would probably take care of the majority of the problem within a few weeks.
