By D. Orlando Ledbetter, Atlanta Journal Constitution - After his first full NFL season in retirement, former Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Tony Dungy has found joy off the field.

Five Minutes With: Magic Johnson
By Dave D'Alessandro/The Star-Ledger, The Star-Ledger - Seated courtside watching the Nets and Sixers Wednesday night at Wachovia Center was the greatest point guard in NBA history, who was in town for a speaking engagement. And to his credit, Magic Johnson didn’t shield his eyes from the fiasco, or let the Nets’ presence affect his perpetually upbeat mood.

Q. Did you ever think in your lifetime that you’d see a 7-61 team?

MAGIC: No. No. It’s not good for our league, and it’s not good for the Nets. And the worst part of it is they may not even get the first pick. So I’m hoping those lottery balls fall

Will Texas Tech be more balanced?
By Heather Dinich, ESPN (blog) - In his first speaking engagement since becoming head coach, Tommy Tuberville said he would like to be "a little" more balanced on offense in order to help keep the quarterbacks healthy.

More balanced at Texas Tech doesn't mean the Red Raiders' offense will suddenly become a 50-50 split. More like Texas Tech will still look like Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders do have the personnel, though, to add a few extra carries per game. And they certainly could afford to. Last year, Texas Tech was 115th in the country in rushing offense, averaging 84 yards per game. They were No. 2 in

ACL ends senior McCray's career at Kansas
By Mechelle Voepel, ESPN (blog) - Friday marked our annual Women's Sports Awards Luncheon event in Kansas City. It benefits an organization called Win for K.C., a local incarnation of what the Women's Sports Foundation is nationally.

It's an inspiring, energy-charged event, and this year was especially a big deal, with women's sports legend Billie Jean King as keynote speaker. She started the WSF back in 1974, so this was her chance to see the microcosm of her life's work represented in this Midwestern community.

Among the award winners this year was a 73-year-old grandmother who has run 97 marathons. Yes -- 97! Her goal is to reach

Your Personal Best: Olympic Gold-Medalist Nikki Stone
Success Magazine - The Turtle Effect

When Nikki Stone was 5, she watched Nadia Comaneci score a perfect 10 in gymnastics at the Olympics. Nikki promptly made a podium out of the furniture in her living room to make the very important announcement that such a win is exactly what she would accomplish. Her mother responded with the wisdom that would carry her daughter through years of training, a devastating spinal injury and on to an Olympic gold medal. She told Nikki she must be like a turtle--soft on the inside, hard on the outside and willing to stick her neck out.

Jim Brown's my hero, Tiger doesn't have to be
FOXSports.com - USA - I figured out years ago it's a good thing everyone doesn't act like me.

Strip clubs would be overcrowded. You'd literally have to call ahead to reserve a champagne room.

Strip-club hostess: "We can get you in with Mercedes on Tuesday at 5 p.m. or there's a 2 a.m. slot on Sunday with Athena. Mr. Whitlock, what would you prefer?"

Selfishly, I'd prefer things stay exactly as they are. The hypocrites can secretly surf the Internet for porn, shop Craiglist for hookers and pretend their twice-a-year sex life with their spouse of five years is satisfying and a one-way ticket to Heaven's gates.

Plan to market star swimmer is in second of three phases
Baltimore Sun - United States - Though his celebratory parade in Towson represented a finale to Michael Phelps' post-Olympic blitz of public appearances, the swimmer is just beginning his quest to become an enduring marketing force.

He's at a point now where he can make a difference in so many ways if he has the energy to do it and the commitment to do it."

Collinsworth Finds New Life on Showtime's "Inside the NFL"
Washington Post - United States - When HBO decided earlier this year to pull the plug on "Inside the NFL," the long-running weekly talk and highlight show that actually began on free, over-the-air television 31 years ago, Cris Collinsworth was, by his own description, "stunned."

There's an abundance of highlight shows everywhere you look. Maybe the ratings didn't justify the costs. But even so, this was something that was on from the beginning of the (HBO) network,

ESPN - The essence of Andy Roddick's game is power. When he is banging pea-sized serves and laser forehands behind them, tennis is a simple game. When it's happening on the rock-hard courts of the U.S. Open, it can approach sublime.

It seems like 2003 all over again for Roddick, who seems to have found his bruising rhythm just in time to challenge for the major title he won here three years ago. And maybe, just maybe, there are elements of diversity creeping into his game.
