Alan Cumming brings his cabaret to S.F |
San Francisco Chronicle - Stage, film and TV ("The Good Wife") actor, writer and director Alan Cumming has done everything from stand-up comedy and his own talk show to writing a best-selling novel ("Tommy's Tale") and releasing an eponymous fragrance. One thing the salaciously androgynous master of ceremonies in "Cabaret" had never done, though, was create his own cabaret act. Another was to perform live in San Francisco.
He finally made his cabaret debut last year with "I Bought a Blue Car Today." He makes his San Francisco debut in that show Saturday, presented by Marc Huestis at the Castro Theatre. We caught up with him in New York, where he's been performing "Blue Car" at Feinstein's.
Q: Did you really buy a blue car?
A: No. The show's kind of about my becoming an American citizen. "I bought a blue car" is a sentence I had to write in the naturalization test.
