Sunday Paper - Atlanta, GA, USA - The Fourth of July is a bizzaro holiday, especially this year. Having a holiday fall on Wednesday throws the whole week out of whack. Not that I don’t appreciate and value my independence in every way, shape and form, but taking the time to plan fun activities for Independence Day just disappeared into the black hole recesses of my mind.
The problem is that I’m a horrible vacation and day-off planner. I never think about it. And, the hump day holiday phenomenon made matters worse, with people disappearing into vacation land the previous weekend and others turning the day off into a super long weekend. Then there are those of us who used the holiday as a chance to hit the pool, barbecue and watch fireworks—dragging ourselves into work the next day.
One of the long weekend-takers was my buddy Kay Jones, who took a little time off from booking guests on CNN for Anderson Cooper to visit her old pals in Atlanta. Although, if I worked with Anderson, I would never leave his side, and I’d probably get fired for constantly staring at him a creepy smile pasted on my face, trying to restrain myself from stroking his silver fox hair. But I digress. Kay works hard, so I can’t blame her for taking a vacation and the leaving the Coop for a few days. I’m sure he’ll forgive her.
